DLN roundup: Kennett field hockey team shuts out Garnet Valley

The Kennett High School field hockey team (2-0) defeated Garnet Valley, 5-0, Wednesday, getting goals from Sarah Fritz, Mia Wynn (Morgan Carter assist), Whitney Walker, Margo Schwarz and Marissa Herring. Kennett goalie Marta Tresoldi recorded two saves.

Girls’ volleyball

West Chester Rustin 3, Springfield 1 >> The Golden Knights, who posted scores of 25-15, 21-25, 25-15 and 25-15, were led by senior Jane Nelson (24 kills, 40 digs) and junior Victoria D’Ulisse (25 assists).

Garnet Valley 3, Downingtown West 1 >> The Whippets lost their home opener to the defending District 1 champion Jaguars, posting scores of 25-23, 18-25, 22-25, 16-25. West was led by Fallon Mitchell (13 kills, 12 digs, three aces), Emma Helveston (10 kills , two blocks, two aces), Ava Brotze (five kills), Riley Burke (four kills), Leah Hampson (two kills, four blocks), Maggie McLaughlin (20 assists, three aces) and Sarah Sherner (15 assists).

Golf

Unionville (boys) 205, Sun Valley 248 >> Cole Donnelly led the way for the Longhorn boys (6-0 in the Ches-Mont American Division) with a score of 37. Other top Unionville scores were by Jack Anderson (40), AJ Ricciuti (42), Will McCarthy (43), Mikey Niemkiewicz (43) and Hill Meserve (43).

Unionville (girls) 188, Oxford 225 >> At Kennett Square Country Club, the top Longhorn scorers were Reagan Wilson (39), Sarina Patel (45), Fiona Avondolio (49) and Brooke Donnelly (55). Unionville improved to a league record of 5-1.

West Chester Rustin 188, Great Valley (boys) 228 >> The Golden Knight squad (boys and girls) was led at Chester Valley (par 35, nine holes) by Sam Feeney (37), Sophia DeSantis (37) and Anesti Kalderemtzis (37). For Great Valley, the top scorer was Harry Traynor (43).

Downingtown East 192, Great Valley (girls) 229 >> Mia Pace led the Cougar girls with a one-over-par 36 at Chester Valley. Sarah Chung scored a 50 for D-East. Elena Six was the leading Patriots scorer with a 53.
